Step 1:
You will need to download Ace FTP, this can be found at:
http://www.tucows.com/preview/195118.html
Installing ACE FTP:
Once the program has been downloaded, start the installation process by double clicking the setup icon. The
following window will be displayed, to progress click Next.
Step 2:
You will need to accept the license agreement by clicking I Agree.
Step 3:
You will not need to change the directory the program installs to, simply click Install on the window below:
Step 4:
Once the installation is complete you can select to run ACE FTP and click finish.
Note: you will need to register to use ACE FTP, this is a free registration, after the installation you will be prompted to do this, it is not completely necessary however will prevent registration prompts from appearing when using the program.
Step 5:
Once ACE FTP has been installed you will need to manually create the connection to connect to the webalizer site.
After launching ACE FTP you will need to set up a new FTP connection, this can be done by clicking the FTP icon in the top left hand corner of the program, and will display the following window:
Double clicking new site profile will allow you to enter the details of the FTP host you will need to
connect to, to download the raw stats information of your website.
Step 6:
You can choose a name for the connection in the description field at the top.
You will then need to specify your host, (server), username and password.
The servername will be in the format:
webalizer.domainname.com
Replacing the domain name with your website URL excluding the www.
The UserID is the username you use to log into your members area, also know as your freedom2surf account
name.
The Password is the same as you use to log into your members area.
Once this has been done click finish, and return to the previous window.
Now you can test the connection to the host by double clicking the newly created FTP connection.
Step 7:
Once the connection to the webalizer site has been created you will now need to configure the script to download the stats for you once per day, with ACE FTP you can do this by selecting the site menu and scripts.
Note: before creating the script it is important to be connected to the FTP webalizer site and within the directories you wish to download from and download to.
To configure the script un-check the use property class default value at the top, displayed in the screenshot
above. Un-check this option and create a name for the script by using the name field and specify the process you wish to execute; in this case we will copy the webalizer files to a local folder. Click the Add button: at the bottom of the window
The menu will drop down and allow you to select the Transfer list, now select copy to left this will input the following code into your script:
CopyToLeft()
We now need to specify the file name, however as the file will change on a day to day basis you will need to create the code:
CopyToLeft(*gz)
This will download the files from the webalizer site and transfer them to the directory on your computer.
Click Add located at the top and click Apply and OK
The script has now been created to connect to FTP site webalizer.domainname.com and change directory on both host and local machine and download files from the host to your computer.
You may test your script by selecting Site you will now see that the Script menu has an arrow pointing right to indicate you have created a script, clicking this will display your script. At this point click the Start button to see your script in action.
Step 8:
You should now have a fully working script, now we need this to automatically run at a specified time of the day, to do this we start by selecting the tools menu in Ace FTP; you will now see the Schedule menu.
In the above window double click New Task to display the schedule wizard:
Click Next to start the wizard as displayed above.
You will now be asked to name the task in this case we will call it Webalizer.
Click Next again to proceed, you will now need to select the FTP site you wish to connect to and the script
your would like to run, this is normally done for you:
The next window will allow you to choose when you would like the script to run, in this instance we will run it on a
daily basis:
The following screen allows you to specify the time of day and start date of the task:
As with all scheduled tasks you will be asked for your computer logon name and password this is the information used
to log onto XP when your computer is turned on:
Clicking Next should complete the Wizard, check the setting and click finish:
